New Year, New You!

It’s okay to dream,
You should have a dream,
One that lifts you to the sky,
But you must nurture it,
Never sit on it,
Or let it idly pass you by.

Christmas and New Year will already feel like a distant memory. On the 31st December, at the stroke of midnight, many of us will have waved goodbye to 2018 and delighted in the prospects of a new year. With a glass of bubbly in one hand and a party blower in the other, we will have raised a glass to better times and good fortune to all, but as the first week of January rolls into the second, our enthusiasm tends to wane. Overstretched credit cards, bigger waistlines and broken new year resolutions add misery to the cold, harsh, wintery weather.

“For the first time in my life, I felt as though I was sitting on top of the world. I no longer needed people to look up at me, applaud my position or admire me. Instead, I wanted to inspire people, to encourage people to join me in what I had found to be a far better place to dwell.”

To be honest, 2018 was a funny old year! Brexit seemed to be the only headline news, and the unprecedentedly long, hot summer very quickly dulled our memories of the extreme weather triggered by “The Beast from the East”.

“Never underestimate the power that we all have within us to create a better world.”

When we look back over 2018, most of us (myself included) will probably have had our share of ups and downs, sadness, happiness, loss, heartache and wonderful surprises. It’s at this time of year though, that I try even harder to remind myself of what I already have that many don’t: a roof over my head, food on the table, a loving family, good friends, and the ability to speak freely and share my thoughts and feelings.

It’s always good to remember that events, circumstances and people don’t always work out the way we expect them to, and hopes and dreams don’t always materialise as quickly as we would like either. I truly believe though, that fate has a habit of finding ways to move you in the right direction if you stick to your guns!  Don’t let anyone say you can’t in 2019, because you can!

“It’s in adverse times we grow and learn, even though we don’t see it at the time.”

Sharon webstieYoung, glamorous and hungry for success, Sharon Bull spent years working to achieve a high-flying career. She was desperate to achieve that “perfect” lifestyle we all see in the media, craving status, money and material possessions.

But this eventually triggered a shopping addiction, which left her in crippling debt. In 2010 she lost everything and almost took her own life in the depths of her despair. Somehow, she found a way to claw herself back, transform her life, reconnect with nature and inspire others to find fulfilment beyond the superficial.
